The Bugs and Glitches We Found on One UI 7 Beta 1

Samsung has released One UI 7 Beta 1, a major Android interface update with a fresh design, a new ‘Now Bar’ feature similar to Apple’s Dynamic Island, and improved AI-driven security. The beta, starting with the Galaxy S24 series, launched in countries like Germany, India, and the US. Users are praising its smooth performance and iOS-like aesthetics.

Now, we have to understand that beta versions are often buggy, although it's not always the case. These versions are released to gather feedback from users before the Android 16 release. This helps developers identify bugs and performance issues that might not appear in controlled testing environments. That said, the level of bugs depends on the stage of the beta (early betas are usually buggier) and how much effort developers have put into pre-release testing. Some beta versions, especially later ones, can be quite stable, providing a near-final experience.

Nonetheless, it is an exciting release for lots of Samsung fans, but in today’s blog, we are going to talk about dissatisfaction, suggestions for functions and designs, and bugs we have found.

1. Battery Charging Icon Animation

The battery charging icon animation when plugging in on the home screen or when unlocked is horrible. It feels outdated and doesn’t blend well with the rest of the interface.

2. Lack of Updated Animations

There is a lack of animation updates in general. Many parts of the interface still look and animate just like older versions of One UI, making the update feel less fresh and polished.

3. No Smooth Unlock Wallpaper Transitions

The unlock wallpaper transitions are missing. They don’t fade or transition smoothly, instead, it’s just a sudden change. Both Pixel and iOS have handled this much better, with smoother transitions for reference.

4. Forced Bouncy Animations

The bouncy animations feel forced and do not align well with the movement of the finger. This is especially noticeable when dragging down the quick panel or notification panel, where the animation stops abruptly and then bounces/stretch awkwardly, not matching the finger’s movement.

5. New Battery Icon Feels Cheap

The new battery icon is cool but feels cheap. Maybe adding a little dot like on iOS would improve its appearance significantly

6. Folder Animations Are Horrible

The animations when leaving an app in a folder are horrible. When exiting, it takes you back to the home screen rather than smoothly transitioning back to the previous view.

7. Notification Icon Placement

The pill-shaped notification in the status bar should be moved to the punch hole to make it feel more natural and in line with modern designs.

8. Missing Animation for Notification Icons

Other icons in the notification bar, like the stopwatch, don’t have proper animations when opening and closing the top now bar. They just suddenly disappear and reappear without any smooth transitions.

9. Lock Screen Music Player Adjustments

The lock screen music player could use some adjustments. The text is cut off at the bottom, and the music name doesn’t move when there’s too much information, making it hard to read.

10. Keyboard Should Appear Automatically

The keyboard should automatically come up when opening the Finder. It feels a bit inconvenient to have to manually open it when searching.

11. Nowbar Music Player Needs Some Refinements

The music player on the nowbar should have the same blur effect as the timer, and it would be better if the Samsung Music background used a color instead of the solid color currently used.

Conclusion

Overall, One UI 7 has some great features, but there are definitely a few areas that need improvement. The battery charging animation and the lack of smooth transitions feel outdated, and the forced bouncy animations can be a bit off-putting. Small things like smoother wallpaper transitions, better folder animations, and automatic keyboard prompts would make a big difference in the day-to-day experience. With a bit more polish, One UI 7 could easily become a much more enjoyable and seamless experience for Samsung users.
