Samsung releases multiple flagship devices every year, but what really gets us walking on air is the Galaxy S-series annual launch event. This line is usually released early in the year. This 2025, it was rumored that the Samsung Galaxy S25 will have an upgraded wireless charging standard that uses magnets to improve charging speed and efficiency– Qi2. Will the Galaxy S25 Support Qi2?
Our best answer: Yes, the Samsung Galaxy S25 is expected to support Qi2. Qi2 support would allow for a wider range of accessories for the Galaxy S25, such as charging stands, mounts, and wallets.
While we were hard at work creating our ultra-thin Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra case with a MagSafe ring, our magnetic array supplier informed us that their clients (mostly major telecom carriers) are adopting a new magnetic array design. This design is similar to the popular MagSafe system but features significantly reduced thickness and modifications to accommodate the design of the upcoming Flagship phones.
Having worked with aftermarket MagSafe accessories for years, this is the first time we’ve had to halt production and wait for a new supply of MagSafe arrays.
We are confident that the Samsung Galaxy S25 series will finally support Qi2.
Amazingly, you can recharge them wirelessly with a new Qi2-compatible wireless charger, allowing it to work similarly to Apple’s MagSafe charging at 15 watts. (Note: The latest iPhones support MagSafe charging speeds of up to 25 watts.)
What Is Qi2 Charging?
Qi2 charging, pronounced “chee two,” is the latest version of wireless charging technology introduced by the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) in late 2023. Developed in collaboration with Apple, it uses the same Magnetic Power Profile (MPP) system found in Apple’s MagSafe charging for iPhones.
Qi2 chargers feature a ring of magnets that help precisely align your device with the charger. This perfect alignment ensures faster and more efficient wireless charging at up to 15 watts, compared to traditional Qi charging, which typically supports only 5 to 7.5 watts.
Additionally, Qi2 includes advanced safety mechanisms, such as better heat management and more precise foreign object detection. As an open and global standard that's available for various brands, including Apple and Google, the adoption of this charging standard to the S25 series will be a game-changer.
Qi2 products can be identified by a Qi2 logo on the device or packaging. To be Qi Certified, products undergo rigorous testing for safety and interoperability.
What Is the Difference between Qi2 and MagSafe?
MagSafe and Qi2 really have no significant differences in terms of specifications and features. The only distinction is that Android devices cannot utilize the fastest charging speed of 100% MagSafe wireless chargers, whereas iPhones can achieve the fastest speeds with both MagSafe and Qi2, offering better compatibility.
When choosing MagSafe charging products, it’s important to note that only those with the “Made For MagSafe” certification can support up to 25W charging. With Qi2, the maximum charging speed is 15W.
Conclusion
The long wait is over! The Qi2 wireless charging standard is finally poised to make its debut on flagship Android devices. Samsung's adoption of Qi2 marks a significant milestone, and Google Pixel and Motorola are expected to follow suit soon.
