Galaxy S25 Ultra: The Thinnest Bezel Ever?

Despite the reported bugs in the One UI 7 Beta program, there is one exciting piece of news for all Samsung Galaxy fans: the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra will have the thinnest bezel, according to leaker @UniverseIce. In this blog post, we'll explore this new discovery more and share our thoughts about the "thinnest" bezel and what it could mean to users.

Thinnest Bezel Is Coming: What Do Leaks Say?

Recent leaks suggest that the Galaxy S25 Ultra will feature remarkably thin bezels, possibly the thinnest Samsung has ever introduced. At 1:32 AM, Dec 17, 2024, the famous leaker @UniverseIce somehow confirmed this on X with this tweet:

Here’s what’s currently buzzing in the rumor mill:

1. Record-Breaking Thinness

Leaked dimensions of the Galaxy S25 Ultra hint at ultra-slim bezels with an increased screen-to-body ratio (89.8%). The bezels are reported to be even thinner than those on the Galaxy S24 Ultra, which were already narrow by flagship standards.

2. Rounded Edges for Comfort

The Ultra variant may adopt more rounded edges compared to its predecessor, offering improved ergonomics while remaining sleek. The design choice could help soften the boxy feel of previous Ultra models, which can make them a little similar to iPhones.

3. Durable Frame Material

Reports indicate that Samsung might use titanium for the frame and a glass front and back (Corning Gorilla Armor). This combo would enhance durability and complement the thin bezels by allowing a robust structure with minimal bulk. To complement the minimalist design, we recommend pairing your device with our thinnest Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra case. You can also benefit from the MagSafe compatibility of this case, especially now that the  S25 Ultra supports the Qi2 protocol.

4. Integration of Sensors and Cameras

The leaked design hints at challenges Samsung might tackle with thinner bezels, such as embedding front-facing cameras and sensors more effectively, possibly under the display.

5. Flat Frame for Sleeker Design

The leaked renders showcase a flat frame, suggesting a more modern design trend, which further enhances the minimalistic appearance of thin bezels.

In addition to the bezel innovation, the Galaxy S25 Ultra is rumored to come in several elegant color combinations:

  • Blue: A lighter blue back cover paired with a silver frame featuring subtle blue accents.

  • Black: A classic black back cover complemented by a silver middle frame.

  • White: A crisp white back cover with very light silver for the frame.

  • Gray: A sophisticated gray back cover with a touch of gold, matched with a similar-toned frame.

Why Thin Bezels Are a Big Deal

Bezels are the border between the screen and the frame of a device. They have several purposes, including :

  • Protecting the display from damage

  • Preventing accidental touches on the screen

  • Reducing fingerprint marks

Android and iPhone users alike do not bat an eye on bezels. In 2025, the Galaxy S25 Ultra will reportedly feature the thinnest bezels across the main cast of competitors, beating out the iPhone 16 Pro Max by 0.2 mm. Experts think the S25 Ultra didn't have to slim down even further but it did because it's something that Samsung can then boast about.

So, why do we love thin bezels?

  • More screen space: Thin bezels allow for more display space on the phone.

  • More comfortable to hold: Phones with thin bezels are more comfortable to hold because they take up less space.

  • Seamless multi-screen experience: Thin bezels can make it easier to use multiple screens together.

However, thin bezels can also have some drawbacks. With thin bezels, there's less room for your fingers to hold the phone. It's also easier to accidentally touch a button or scroll down a page when you change your grip. Additionally, thin bezels may require special coatings or treatments to stay smudge-resistant and easy to clean.

What Do We Think About the Galaxy S25 Ultra with Thinnest Bezels?

Sounds great! It’s the first time in forever we’re hearing that Samsung has finally surpassed its competitors with a narrow bezel design. With One UI 7, Samsung is setting up for a major comeback.

That said, ultra-thin bezels alone aren’t enough to win us over. What we’re really looking for are forceful improvements in two critical areas:

#1 Camera Performance

Samsung needs to deliver genuinely revolutionary upgrades to keep pace with competitors like Vivo and Honor, who are making waves in mobile photography. Recent leaks on camera performance reported a 200 MP wide, 10 MP telephoto, 50 MP periscope telephoto, and 50 MP ultrawide cameras. We think this is great, but it doesn’t seem like an upgrade from the S24 Ultra.

#2 Battery Life

A flagship experience demands longer-lasting, more efficient power. Personally, we think the rumored 5000 mAh is a good catch, just slightly better than the S24 Ultra (4855 mAh).

If these areas aren’t significantly improved, brands like Honor, Vivo, or Xiaomi Ultra might become more appealing alternatives.

Additionally, the design isn’t without concerns. The fat camera ring design still feels clunky and less elegant compared to sleeker alternatives. Moreover, without quad-curved or 2.5D glass, we worry that the phone may feel less ergonomic, potentially impacting the ease of using gestures on such a large display.

While the thin bezels are a step forward, Samsung needs to bring more to the table to truly dominate in 2025.

Final Thoughts

If there’s one thing we learned from Samsung, they are s-n-e-a-k-y. One proof of this is the recent leaks about a Galaxy S25 Slim coming later in the summer of 2025. We do hope to see the “thinnest bezel ever” and bet our money on it. However, success hinges on delivering more than aesthetics. Improved camera performance, enhanced battery life, and refined ergonomics will be critical in securing its flagship status for 2025.
